All suburban Chicago fire departments are now members
of MABAS system, a system for assuring mutual aid to all departments,
regardless of size or resources. MABAS stands for Mutual Aid
Box Alarm System. The old south suburban CFA
system has now been incorporated into MABAS.
see our MABAS Page
for information about MABAS
Suburban Chicago has many different fire
departments. Some are operated by the municipality, some are
fire protection districts, and there is even a volunteer fire company
still active in DuPage County. Each department is unique in
its size, manpower, equipment, and district size. There are no
countywide departments in the Chicago area.
